Each day begins with free play exploration, where children engage in hands-on activities in areas like science, sensory play, early math, reading readiness, art, building, and dramatic play. These experiences help them strengthen critical thinking skills, express creativity, collaborate with peers, and develop independence.

Our Preschool Program is rooted in the PreK for ME and Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, aligned with the Maine Early Learning and Development Standards. We also incorporate Heggerty Phonemic Awareness for fun phonics and early reading skills and support social-emotional growth with Second Step® and Zones of Regulation, helping children navigate their feelings, solve problems, develop empathy, and build strong friendships. Each child is screened prior to enrollment or within 30 days of starting. Meaning each child will take part in a brief, developmentally appropriate screening process that gives us a snapshot of their strengths and areas where support may be helpful. Ongoing assessments guide our teaching throughout the year, with parent-teacher conferences held in both the fall and spring.

Children learn through a balance of child-led discovery and teacher-guided instruction, with group time that includes songs, stories, and opportunities for playful learning. Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom, embracing daily outdoor adventures that encourage exploration, resilience, and a deep connection to nature.

At House of Parker Preschool, we believe learning should feel like an adventure that is full of wonder, joy, and discovery. Our Preschoolers leave each day feeling confident, capable, and deeply loved.
