A Cozy Space Built Just for Your Littles
In our preschool, every detail is thoughtfully designed to create a warm, welcoming space where your littles can explore, learn, and grow with comfort and confidence.
Strategies to foster independence in preschoolers, including promoting self-help skills, encouraging decision-making, and supporting problem-solving at home and in the classroom.
One of the most common questions we hear from parents is, “Why send my child to preschool at age 3? Isn’t age 4 the typical starting point?” It’s a thoughtful question, and one we love answering, because the benefits of early preschool exposure are both meaningful and backed by research.
At House of Parker Preschool in Gorham, Maine, our 2-day program for 3-year-olds is more than just a stepping stone—it’s a foundational year that gently introduces young children to the world of school, friendships, routines, and independence in a developmentally appropriate way.
The Early Years Matter
The early years are some of the most critical in a child’s development. According to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, early experiences build the architecture of the developing brain. By age 3, children are growing rapidly in language, social-emotional awareness, and cognitive abilities. A well-designed preschool program nurtures these areas through play, exploration, and gentle structure.
Our 2-day program is designed to give children the time and space to adjust to a school setting without overwhelming their growing need for comfort and familiarity. For many children, especially those experiencing separation anxiety, beginning with just two days a week allows for a gradual build-up of confidence and trust. We’ve seen time and again how starting slow leads to big growth.
Supporting Separation with Compassion
If your child struggles with goodbyes, you’re not alone—and you’re not doing anything wrong. Separation anxiety is incredibly common at this age, and our 2-day program is intentionally designed to help children work through those big feelings in a safe, supportive environment. With nurturing relationships, predictable routines, and plenty of opportunities to connect and play, many of our youngest learners begin to look forward to their “school days” after just a few short weeks.
House of Parker Preschool is proud to be a trusted option for families in Gorham, Maine, offering a gentle, child-centered start that honors both the child’s needs and the family’s goals.
A Smart Step Toward School Readiness
Our 2-day class isn’t about pushing academics or rushing childhood—it’s about empowering children to gain independence, make friends, manage transitions, and follow simple group routines. These are all foundational skills that make future school experiences smoother and more joyful, and allow them to continue to become curious, confident learners who feel secure in themselves and in their environment.
A Built-In Benefit for the Future
And here’s one of the biggest perks of joining our 2-day class:
Children enrolled in our 2-day program are grandfathered into our public Pre-K program the following year. That means no stress about being waitlisted, no lottery to worry about—you’ll have a secured spot with us for your child’s next year of preschool in Gorham, Maine.
Not planning to pursue the public Pre-K route? Families who begin with us in the 2-day program will also receive priority enrollment in our 3-day private Pre-K class, before any remaining slots are offered to others who have expressed interest.
A Meaningful First School Experience
We believe that preschool isn’t a race to kindergarten—it’s a special, sacred season of its own. Our 2-day program honors that. We meet children where they are, support them as they grow, and offer them a warm, joyful place to belong.
So if you’re wondering whether your 3-year-old is ready, we’d love to show you how powerful a gentle, play-based start can be.
